Laser hair removal is a technique for permanently removing unwanted body hair. With the use of intense heat from a laser, Dr. Cagnes is able to damage the unwanted hair follicles, preventing the hair from growing back.
While anyone can have the procedure done, it is typically most effective on people with light skin and dark hair. However, because of new advances in technology, even people with darker skin can still see great improvement in their hair reduction.
Laser hair removal can be done in nearly any area of the body, depending on your desires. Some of the most common areas in which people choose to have hair removed include the underarms, legs, upper lip and chin, and bikini line. The only areas it is recommended to avoid are the eyelid and surrounding areas.
Before the procedure, Dr. Cagnes recommends that you stay out of the sun and avoid plucking or waxing the intended areas, as this can make the procedure less effective.
On the day of the procedure, hair in the area will be trimmed with a pair of scissors to make it more manageable. You will be given goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam, and then Dr. Cagnes will press a handheld device over your skin. Usually, you won't feel any serious pain, and you'll only notice a bit of redness and swelling for a few hours after the procedure.
Generally, laser hair removal is very successful, especially if you have lighter skin with dark hair. About a month after your treatment, you will notice hair falling out of the area.
However, to see the best results, laser hair removal typically takes several treatments for complete success. You might also require a few touch-up treatments about once a year to maintain your results.
