Bladder Control Q&A

Stop suffering the embarrassing consequences of lack of bladder control.

Also known as Overactive Bladder (OAB) or stress incontinence, the symptoms of OAB can be as mild as constant bathroom trips to more serious such as, interrupted sleep and accidental leakage.

There are many safe and effective surgical and non-surgical bladder control treatments, such as:

→ Lifestyle Changes, including weight loss, and suggested elimination of alcohol, coffee, tea and carbonated beverages
→ Bladder Training
→ Pelvic Muscle Exercises (or Kegels)
→ Biofeedback
→ PTNS (Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation) Treatments
→ Medtronic Bladder Control Therapy (PTNM)
→ Treatment for Stress Incontinence

This in-office treatment offers a non-invasive, non-surgical, non-drug bladder control treatment for patients. Bladder function is a complex interaction between bladder, brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. PTNS uses mild electrical impulses that travel up the tibial nerve to the sacral nerve. Stimulating these nerves quiets the overactive bladder, reducing inappropriate bladder contractions and the number of signals sent to the brain. This results in less frequency, urgency and urge incontinence.

PTNS works gently and slowly to improve bladder symptoms through a series of weekly 30-minute treatments. Up to 80% of patients see significant improvement in their symptoms. PTNS delivers remarkable results with reduced risk and is a safe and effective treatment for overactive bladder.

With few contraindications, contact us to see if PTNS is right for you.

Medtronic Bladder Control Therapy (PTNM)

PTNM is a safe an effective OAB treament that is clinically proven to restore bladder function.  It provides lasting relief with maintenance therapy and does not have the side effects of medication.  If you’ve tried OAB treatments and haven’t been happy with the results, don’t give up. These treatments may not have addressed the miscommunication between the brain and bladder that is thought to be linked to OAB.

PTNM restores bladder function by gently stimulating the tibial nerve. It is delivered through the NURO system at Dr. Cagnes' office through a series of weekly 30-minute sessions.  The NURO System delivers therapy through an acupuncture-like needle placed in the skin near your ankle. The sensation is not painful, although you may feel a slight tingling in your heel.

You'll be free to read, listen to music, or catch up on email during the therapy session!

SLING: Treatment for Stress Incontinence

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is an involuntary loss of urine during physical activity, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercise. About 1 our of every 3 women experience urinary leakage at some time in their lives. This affects one-third of women age 30 to age 60 and one-third of women under the age of 30.

SLING is a small strip or “sling” of a very soft and flexible synthetic material. A SLING becomes integrated in your tissues and forms a “hammock of support” under your urethra (tube where one urinates through) to support it when necessary.

SLING has been developed by biomedical engineers and clinical researchers to be compatible with your tissues to increase bladder control.

Vaginal Procedures are also conducted here in Sorgente Med Spa and All Cape Gynecology.
